Demonstration (5 minutes):
1. Gather all Scouts around a safe area where a gas stove setup is accessible (ensure it’s supervised and compliant with safety regulations).
2. Demonstrate key safety practices such as:
- Checking for gas leaks (using soapy water technique).
- Properly lighting the stove with a long lighter.
- Keeping flammable objects away from the stove.
3. Explaining the importance of monitoring food while cooking.
4. Discuss how to turn off the stove securely after use.
Quiz (10 minutes):
After the demonstration, have a quick quiz with questions like:
- What should you do if you smell gas? (Answer: Don't light a match, turn off the gas, and inform an adult.)
- Why is it important not to leave cooking unattended? (Answer: Food can burn, and it could cause a fire.)
- What items should you keep away from the stove? (Answer: Towels, paper, and anything flammable.)
- Encourage Scouts to raise their hands to answer each question, fostering a participative atmosphere.
