Description
Make Playdough and Oubleck and explore difference in texture etc.
Use coloured playdough to make planets.
Create solar system - place in correct place and label them.

Resources:
- Plastic table mat
- Cornflour, Food Colouring gel (yellow, red, blue, black), Hair Conditioner
- Bowls - big washing up bowl for main batch, four bowls for colour mixing, bowls/tupperwares for oubleck (divide YP into groups)
- Rubber gloves, Weighing scales/cups, Jug for water, spoons
- Tuff tray, chalk
- Picture of solar system
Instructions
Make Playdough:
Recipe can be found online, but here a ratio of 2:1 of Cornflour/Plain flour and cheap hair conditioner used.
Also food colouring gel: red, yellow, blue and black.
Steps:
Mix big batch of white dough and divide into four to add each colour.
Make Oubleck (Cornflour and Water) - YP can play with oubleck while adults add food colour and mix play dough
Divide up coloured playdough into portions and let YP play.
Reflect/discuss experiment (different texture between Oubleck and playdough) and senses (how does it look, feel, smell)
Show pictures of planets and solar system.
Make into planets - teams of two to make each planet plus sun - discuss what colours to mix together.
Make solar system onto Tuff tray - chalk lines and name tags for each planet first
