Resources
Enough ziplok/sandwich bags for everyone.
2 cotton wool balls or a piece of kitchen roll per person.
1 large seed per person (we used runner beans, but peas are good too. Good idea to pre-soak them to fully hydrate.)
Green cardstock - half A4 sheet per person is fine, depending on the size of your sandwich bags.
You could either pre-print the cards to make it a quick and easy base, or print enough for everyone on your base to use as a templates to cut their own out of green paper.
Scissors
Pencils to write names
Coloured pens to decorate (optional)
Instructions
Pre-soak your seeds before the meeting.
On the base, discuss what plants need to grow while you give everyone a bag.
Get everyone to soak two cotton wool balls in a communal bowl of water and pop into their sandwich bag.
Add the seed on top of the cotton wool balls and seal the bag closed.
Cut out your templates or add their names to the pre-printed card, and decorate, if desired.
Tape or staple the template to the sandwich bag, to look like the seed is in the greenhouse.
Stick to your window at home or in your hall and watch it germinate and grow. (Add more water and repot if successful.)
To make it an experiment, put a seed in a bag with cotton wool but no water and another seed in a bag with blackout card or in a dark place so it gets no light. See how they grow compared to the seeds given light and water,.
