Description

Game that mixes movement with learning about the different states of matter. Solid, liquid & gas.

Resources

Optional- plastic balls

Instructions

Start by discussing water, ice and steam and how it is the same matter in different forms. Ask beavers if they know the temperatures water freezes an melts at. Talk about the other name for water H2O and hand out 2 balls to each beaver explaining how they are the O part and each ball is a H. Then get the beavers to RUN around the room without touching. Explain this is like STEAM (GAS). Next ask them to keep HIGH-FIVING balls with other beavers. This is like WATER (LIQUID). Finally the beavers should STAND STILL and put each hand on the shoulder of a different beaver so they are all joined. This is like ICE (SOLID). Once the beavers have learned the 3 states you can call them out and they can swap between them. If they find it easy you can interchange the names e.g. use water or liquid or even say freeze, melt or boil.
Afterwards talk about how they moved differently in each state and how much space they took up.
