Description

This session allows each Scout to design both a necker badge for the 80th anniversary of the group and a pin badge for the 80th anniversary of VE and VJ Day for the local British Legion branch, encouraging creativity and participation.

Instructions

Introduction (10 minutes):

Gather the Scouts and explain the session's purpose.
Discuss the significance of the 80th anniversary for both the group and the British Legion.
Highlight the meanings behind a necker badge and a pin badge.
Brainstorming Session (20 minutes):

Explain that each Scout will design both badges.
Facilitate a group discussion to brainstorm ideas and themes related to the anniversaries.
Encourage Scouts to think about meaningful symbols, colours, and text.
Provide each Scout with paper to jot down their ideas.
Individual Badge Designing (40 minutes):

Distribute drawing materials: pencils, coloured pens, and paper.
Assign 20 minutes for the necker badge design, then another 20 minutes for the pin badge design.
Instruct Scouts to include meaningful elements symbolising the anniversaries in their designs.
Encourage creativity and experimentation with styles.
Presenting Designs (20 minutes):

Each Scout will share their designs with the group.
They should explain their design choices and the significance behind them.
Allow time for questions and feedback after each presentation.
Potential Risks:

Sharp Objects - Supervise Scouts using drawing or crafting materials with sharp edges.
Tripping Hazards - Ensure the activity area is free from obstacles.
Allergies - Be mindful of any allergies relating to craft materials like paints or glues.
Stress or Disappointment - Foster a supportive environment to avoid pressure on Scouts.
Damage to Property - Instruct Scouts to handle materials carefully and keep their workspace tidy.
