Description
Very simple game used by Astronauts to demonstrate memory skills and coordination
Resources
Low bench/box/stairs
Instructions
This is a test used by the European Space Agency when interviewing potential Astronauts. It demonstrates the candidates memory and coordination skills which are essential for Space travel.
All you need to do is read out 3 numbers, then the candidate repeats them back to you - in reverse order. Whilst doing this, they have to step onto, then step off the bench/box or first step on a staircase. They must place both feet on the step, then take both feet off the step. If they stop moving or stumble, the test is over. If they make a mistake repeating the numbers back to you, the test is over.
Ask an adult leader to demonstrate this activity first. It is surprisingly difficult! There is no failing grade, it just gives the candidate a feeling of what will be expected of them in training. Tim Peake's record is less than 7 numbers!
Use the attached list to read off the numbers. It is important that the person reading the numbers out speaks loud and clear, making no mistakes.
