STEP 1 - ADULT HELP
Put the butter in a bowl
Ask an adult to help or supervise you if you’re using an electric whisk
Beat the butter using an electric whisk or wooden spoon until soft and creamy.
Beat in the sugar
Beat in the egg and vanilla or lemon
Beat in the flour to make a dough.
If the dough feels a bit sticky, add a little more flour and knead it in.
STEP 2
Split the dough into six pieces
Flour the surface
Roll out one piece at a time to about 5mm thickness on the floured surface.
Making sure your fingers aren’t going to be injured - Cut out shapes
Re-roll any off-cuts and repeat.
STEP 3 - ADULT HELP
Transfer the individual biscuits to the baking sheets. You should be able to fit about 12 on each sheet (depending on the size of cutter you’re using).
Ask an adult to help or supervise you using the oven
Bake for 7-10 mins (set the timer!) or until the edges are just brown
Repeat with the rest of the dough.
If you are using two sheets, then the one underneath may take a minute longer.
Leave to cool completely.

Split the white icing evenly across 2 bowls
Add a few drops of the red food colouring to 1 of the bowls and mix well until the icing turns red.
Use teaspoons to decorate your biscuits (one per family member for now, you can do more later).
The biscuits will keep for five days in an airtight container.
Sandwich method - ADULT HELP
Wash hands
Put out 2 slices of bread per sandwich being made
Butter the bread (if wanted)
Put the desired filling on 1 piece of bread for each sandwich
Put the other piece of bread on top of the filling
