Resources

Paper
Pens or Pencils

Instructions

1. Explain the Concept: Start by explaining what an acrostic poem is. Share examples and demonstrate how the first letter of each line forms a word.

2. Choose a Theme: Choose a theme for the poems (e.g., "SCOUTS", “NATURE”, “FRIENDS”).

3. Draft the Poem: Allow each Scout (or pair of Scouts) to write their acrostic poem on a piece of paper. Encourage them to be creative with their lines, perhaps relating to their theme or personal experiences.

4. Support Their Work: Walk around, providing support and feedback as they draft their poems.

5. Each Scout will have the opportunity to read their poem aloud. Encourage listening and positive feedback from peers.

Silly hats and badges worn with pride,
Campsite cooking, where smoke's our guide.
Outrageous tales of the one that got away,
Underneath the stars, we laugh and sway.
Tents that collapse at the slightest breeze,
S’mores in hand, we’re the kings of ease!
