Resources

Resources:

Haggis (pre-cooked or traditional)
Potatoes (for Tatties)
Neeps (or turnips)
Butter, salt, and pepper
Large pots for boiling
Knives and cutting boards
Mixing bowls
Plates and cutlery for serving

Instructions

Preparation:

Divide Scouts into small groups (2-3 per group).
Assign each group a task: peeling and chopping Tatties, preparing Neeps, and explaining the Haggis method.
Have all groups wash their hands and set up their workstations with sanitised surfaces.
Cooking:

Boil the potatoes and Neeps until tender (about 20 minutes).
Each group takes turns to cook the Haggis according to package instructions, usually simmering in water.
Once the vegetables are cooked, each group should drain them and mash them separately.
Mix the mashed vegetables with butter, salt, and pepper to taste.
Serving:

Once everything is ready, help Scouts place the Haggis on plates with the mashed Neeps and Tatties.

Allow the Scouts to enjoy their meal while discussing Scottish culture and traditions.
