A game where Scouts learn how to use a fire extinguisher through a simulated challenge. ?
Resources
Training extinguisher (water spray bottle)
Coloured cones or foam balls to represent different fire types
Timer
Judging sheets for fairness in scoring
Instructions
instructions:
Setup: Create a safe area where the game can be conducted (ideally indoors with enough space). Set up different fire scenarios using props (you can use different coloured cones or balls to represent various types of fires – wood for class A, oil for class B, electrical for class C).
Fire Scenarios: Place the props around the playing area. Each colour represents a different type of fire (e.g., red for Class A - ordinary combustibles, blue for Class B - flammable liquids, and yellow for Class C - electrical fires).
Team Division: Divide Scouts into teams of 3-5 members. Each team will take turns.
Instruction:
Explain the PASS method for using a fire extinguisher:
Pull the pin.
Aim low at the base of the fire.
Squeeze the handle.
Sweep side to side.
Game Play:
Teams take turns to simulate extinguishing fires. One Scout will pretend to be the fire (e.g., waving a flag or holding a foam ball), while others will use a training extinguisher (a spray bottle filled with water) to "extinguish" it.
Each team must identify the correct type of extinguisher to use for their scenario (this can be communicated to them before the game starts).
Use a timer to make it competitive; each team has one minute to complete their task.
Scoring: Points can be awarded based on:
Correct identification of the fire type.
Proper execution of the PASS technique (can be judged by leaders).
Creativity in how they "extinguish" the simulated fire.
After all teams have had their turn, gather all Scouts to discuss what they learned during the game and reflect on fire safety.
