Cat and Skeletons

Description

This adaptation mirrors the classic tag game, incorporating the characters and themes of Bumps in the Night. The cat becomes the tagger, chasing skeletons who "fall apart" when caught, while leaders act as Dr Bones, "fixing" the skeletons so they can rejoin the game.

Resources

optional:
- Dr Bones' medical patch-up kit
- Cat ears

Instructions

How to Play
1. Setting the Scene:
o Introduce the game by explaining: “The big skeleton, little skeleton, and dog skeleton are out having fun in the dark, but a sneaky cat is chasing them! If the cat catches you, you’ll fall apart! Don’t worry—Dr Bones will come and patch you up so you can keep playing!”
o One child plays the cat (the tagger).
o The rest of the children play the skeletons (big skeleton, little skeleton, and dog skeleton).

2. Game Setup:
o Choose a play area large enough for running around but free of obstacles.
o Leaders (Dr Bones) are positioned around the play area to observe and patch up skeletons.

3. The Game:
o The cat chases the skeletons, trying to "catch" them by gently tagging.
o When a skeleton is tagged, they must "fall apart" by sitting or lying down, pretending their bones have scattered.

4. Dr Bones to the Rescue:
o Leaders (Dr Bones) move around the play area, "patching up" fallen skeletons by gently tapping them on the shoulder and saying:
 “Back together again!”
 “All fixed up!”
o Once patched up, skeletons can stand and continue running.

5. Winning the Game:
o Play continues until:
 The cat has tagged all the skeletons at least once, OR
 A set time limit is reached.
o Rotate the roles so different children get to be the cat and experience being patched up by Dr Bones.

Safety Tips:
• Ensure children tag gently to prevent injury.
• Clearly define the play area and boundaries to prevent collisions or wandering off.
• Leaders should monitor the pace of the game to keep it safe and fun.
