Instructions
Did you know
- Almost all forms of religion feature music as an important part of worship, ritual or ceremony.
- There are many genres of Christian music today include Christian rap, pop, metal, hip hop and more.
- Paul encouraged the Church to “Speak to each other with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your hearts to the Lord.” (Ephesians 5:19)
Getting into the activity
1) Split into two or more teams.
2) This activity is going to challenge your knowledge of music lyrics. We have 10 well-known songs, which each have a missing lyric. Can you work out what the missing lyric is and then use that word as a clue to find 10 slips of paper around your meeting space.
3) Play the song on slide 1. After the music has stopped, each team must try and identify the missing lyric. One they have done so, the team can then hunt around their meeting space, using that missing lyric as a clue for where they should look (i.e. cup, chair, clock etc).
4) The first team to find the slip of paper should announce it to the whole group. They gain a point.
5) Come back together and then play the next missing lyric track and repeat the process.
6) Do this for all 10 songs, until you have found all 10 slips of paper. The team that found the most slips of paper is the winner.
7) Now come together as a group and see if you can piece the 10 slips of paper together to create a Bible verse. Some of the words have been split between two slips of paper, helping you to work out which order the pieces should end up.
8) Once you have pieced the Bible verse together, spend a few moments reading it and reflecting. What can we learn from this passionate display of worship? Do you use your time of worship to enthusiastically praise God, or is something holding you back?
“So here I am in the place of worship, eyes open, drinking in your strength and glory. In your generous love I am really living at last! My lips brim praises like fountains. I bless you every time I take a breath; My arms wave like banners of praise to you.” (Psalm 63:2-4)
Keeping everyone safe
