A plan to run a Beavers session about three of aspects of the International Activity Badge.

Resources

1. Beavers handout (1 handout per Beaver, colour printed, A4 size)
2. Pencils or pens (1 pencil/pen per Beaver)
3. Images for Activity 2
4. Cards for Activity 3
5. Sticky tack or sticky tape to stick the images for Activity 2 and 3 up
6. Flag of Greece
7. Flag of European Union
8. Logo of Scouts in Greek celebrating 110 years
9. Uniforms on Scouts in Greece

Instructions

Activity 1: Greek alphabet
Beavers to work on lodges and try to write their name in Greek letters following the handout.

Example
Name in English: Iraklis
Name in Greek: Ηρακλής

Activity 2: Guess the words in English (photo attached)
Beavers to match the English words with the images.

Correct answers

Μαγνήτης - Magnet
Καρότο - Carrot
Ρινόκερος - Rhino

Activity 3: Introducing ourselves (photo attached)
Beavers to introduce themselves in Greek following the A4 cards.

Activity 4: Ordering a tea
Beavers to role play ordering a tea or one of the six different items included in the handout.

Activity 5: Scouts in Greece
a. Discuss about the flags of Greece (cross, blue and white colours, 9 lines-one for each syllable of the sentence: 'Freedom or Death') and the European Union (https://european-union.europa.eu/principles-countries-history/symbols/european-flag_en).
b. Present the logo of celebrating 110 years of Scouts in Greece. Discuss about the symbol and the phoenix (link with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) to help them identify it. Discuss about the two mottos: Αιειν Αριστεύειν - Ever to Excel and Έσο Έτοιμος - Be Prepared.
c. Share images of uniforms and discuss about similarities and differences.

At the end of the session, Beavers to receive the badge 'I speak Greek. What's your superpower?' (photo attached). Speak Greek can provide these in advance by post.
