Description

This is a plan for a Beavers session to cover the four different elements of the Book Reader Activity Badge. The activities are based on suggested activities on the official Scouts website.

Resources

1. The book 'Asif and the Songbird'. Ideally print outs of the pages in colour, each page on A4.
2. Sticky tape to stick the print outs of the book and for Activity 5.
3. A Syrian flag.
4. A family of Syrian refugees.
5. Handout. One sheet per Beaver. Ideally in colour, A4.
6. Colouring pencils, colouring pens or pastels.
7. Numbers for Beavers. 2 copies in A4.

Instructions

1. Welcome & Register (5 minutes)

2. Assembly and Introduction to session's topic (5 minutes)

3. Activity: Share a story (30 minutes)

You may wish to give numbers to Beavers and pick a number for a Beaver to read two pages of the story.
You may need to encourage or support Beavers reading the story, especially the younger ones.
You may wish to ask a question after a Beaver reads two pages. Think about the content, the colours, the feelings or anything else you may think of.
Link the story with few information about wars, refugees. Present the Syrian flag and a photo a family of Syrian refugees.
