Instructions

Set up of activity:
Teddy has been outside playing and fallen over. It’s our job to find out what’s wrong and help teddy.

Some questions we might ask - what’s wrong? What happened? Where do you hurt? Can I help you?

We discover teddy has cut their leg and is bleeding - how can we reassure him that it will be alright?
Offer a drink from the cup, use kind words, offer teddy a hug etc.

First, we clean the cut using the antiseptic wipe - wiping the wound and then folding it over before wiping again so we don’t wipe the dirt back into the wound.

Then we carefully but firmly wrap up the wound, unwrapping the bandage a small amount at a time. This is to stop the blood from coming out of the wound.

Second stage:
What do we do if teddy isn’t conscious? (Eyes closed, not speaking but still breathing?)
We gently tap them to see if teddy wakes up, but if not we do not move teddy because we don’t know if or where they’re hurt. Do they feel hot or cold? They might like something to keep them warm, or a window open to cool them down. We still should not move them or try to give them water.

Now we would find an adult to help, we might even call 999 to get an ambulance. They will ask us about where we are, what has happened, and if anything has changed while we’re waiting.

We would make the area safe for us and teddy - is anything going to fall on us? Any spills that need to be cleaned up?

What did we learn? What key points do we need to remember?
