Look up for your local area where different items can be recycled. Can normally be found on your council website or via this link: https://www.recyclenow.com/recycling-locator

Instructions

Label the 4 sides of a hall or other space. One home recycling bin, one recycling outside of the house, one home waste bin and the last general tip. Then state one of the items below or other similar items and get the young people to proceed to whichever side they think they can do with the item. Ask why they think that and discuss further if there is a split decision or if there is more than one way of disposing of the item. Please look these up for your local area as it changes across the country.

o Crisp packets – non kerbside
o Cardboard – blue bin
o Furniture – general tip (if in good condition, charity shop)
o Batteries – non kerbside
o Building rubble – general tip
o Glass bottles – blue bin
o Toasters or kettles – non kerbside
o Gardening waste – general tip (or green bags or compost if small)
o Mobile phones – non kerbside
o Plastic bottles – blue bin
o Vacuum packaging – black bin
o Glasses (reading etc) – non kerbside
o Nappies – black bin
o Contact lenses – non kerbside.
o Polystyrene – black bin
o Fridge – general tip
o Ceramics – black bin
o Toaster - non kerbside
