Memory (part 1)
Ask the cubs if they remember the Cub Scout Law; they’ll be reminded of the Law and told to remember it for later.
Cub Scouts always do their best,
think of others before themselves
and do a good turn every day.

If they do remember the Law, then they can remember something else useful, like:
I must remind my parents, every week, to check the Cub programme on OSM.

Base set up
We’ll have 3 bases. It’ll take a few minutes to get all the chairs and tables out. I'm thinking each base taking about 20 minutes.

Base 1 - Taking a call
We’ll use some radios for this and Cubs will be split in to 2’s or 3’s (depending on numbers and writing ability).  I have 4 radios so 2 lots of this can go on at once depending on what the base leader wants to do:

Cub 1 - Is given an emergency scenario that requires an ambulance, they then have to make a call (saying the number they would call, i.e. 999) and they need to let the operator(s) know:
That they need an ambulance/fire brigade/police
Where they are (40th Oxford Scout Hut, Kennington; if they know to say 'Otters Reach’ as well that’s great)
Why they are calling, e.g. there’s smoke, someone is injured (adult or child, male or female) and how the person is injured (e.g. used an epi-pen), etc.

Cub 2 (and 3 if applicable) - Have the role of Operator and need to make a note of all the information they think the ambulance driver (a leader) needs.

Everyone gets at least 1 go at being the caller and the operator.

The base leader can make up scenarios if they want or use the cards provided.

Table
Chairs for the operators (callers can stand at the other end of the Hut or in the kitchen depending on noise as they don’t need to write anything).

Base 2 - Hobbies, stories, and memory (part 2)
Cubs will talk to a leader about their hobbies, part of explaining about their hobby needs to be a story, it can be a really short story, or if they can’t think of something then they can either make a SHORT story up or maybe briefly explain the plot of their favourite film or book.

On this base Cubs also need to demonstrate that they remembered the Cub Scout Law/useful sentence; I don’t mind if they help each other to remember.

I have sheets of what they need to say about their hobbies, but the leader will need to remember about the story.

Pens
Paper (in case cubs have to make up a story and want to take notes)
Table
Chairs

Base 3 - Sign language
Cubs learn how to spell their name using sign language (I have sheets).  If they find that easy they can also learn short sentences, e.g. hello my name is… (I have sheets for this too).  Base leader doesn’t need to know sign language! Just make sure they stay as focussed as a cub can on the task, and that they don’t start messing around too much.

Resources
Sign language sheets (letters, phrases, etc.)
