Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

Ladybirds learn about where 5 birds live and what they eat by playing a run around game.
(Adaption for social distancing listed below.)

Resources

Pictures of birds, food, and homes (in the attachement).

Instructions

Instructions
Tell the Ladybirds the following information (and show the pictures):
Blackbirds eat worms and berries & live in gardens and countryside.
Blue tits eat caterpillars and nuts & live in woodland and parks.
House sparrows eat seeds and scraps & live near people.
Starlings eat insects and fruit & live everywhere in Ireland.
Collared doves eat seeds and grains & live in towns and villages.

Next put the pictures up on the walls around the room.

Then ask them e.g. to run to where blackbirds live and they run to the picture of gardens and countryside; or run to the bird that eats insects and fruit and they run to the starling picture; or simply to run to the blackbird etc.

(I have only included a few of the things the birds eat and a few of the places they live - they do have a wider range of food sources/habitats but wanted to make it simpler for the Ladybirds.)

Adaption for social distancing: -
1. Print off each picture (laminate if you want to clean and use again or use if it's raining!).
2. Spread pictures out over a large area - we have a school field so as large as you have.
3. Ask the Ladybirds to find a picture then bring it back to a socially distanced area - we had them in a circle sat 2m apart. Emphasize only to bring back 1 picture each!
4. Ask the 5 Ladybirds with bird pictures to stand up and tell them the names of each bird.
5. Ask one Ladybird with a bird (e.g. blackbird) to stay standing.
6. Ask those with food sources to stand. Ask the Ladybirds if they know which food source blackbirds eat. Once guessed , those with food sources can sit and those with habitats can stand and then ask the Ladybirds if they can guess where blackbirds live. Once guessed - those with the food sources/habitats can turn their picture over and place on the ground so they don't stand up again.
7. Repeat with each bird - will get less choices each time as those with the food sources/habitats already guessed can stay sat down.
