Aim of the Badge: To take on a robotics challenge so Brownies can experience for themselves that STEM learning is fun
Requirements: Complete four elements around robotics, using LEGO Education Materials
Explore ways in which robots are used in everyday life.
Outcomes: Girls develop an awareness of robotics and the benefits of incorporating robotics into everyday life. Learn about how they are used to help in hospitals, factories and even in their homes.

Instructions
• Cut out (and laminate for future use if wanted) the individual pictures of robots / robotics devices for each Six
• As a group, discuss how robots are used in everyday life.
o What is a robot / robot device?
o Do you have any robotic devices in your home or school? e.g. Roomba autonomous vacuum cleaner, Amazon Echo,
Siri
o Can you think of anything else robots do?
o Can you think of anything that robots might be able to do in the future?
• In Sixes, put the robot pictures face down in the middle.
• Each girl selects a picture and describe what she sees and what use it may have.
• Ask the girls to share in their Six what other robots / robotics devices they are aware of in their homes, schools, community.
Definition of a Robot
A robot is a type of automated machine that can execute specific tasks with little or no human intervention and with speed and precision.
A robot is a machine, that is programmable by a computer, that is capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically. A robot can be guided by an external control device or the control may be embedded within. Robots may be constructed to look like the human form, but most robots are task performing machines.
