Learning a few Gaelic Phrases for the Scottish Challenge Badge
Suitable to do on Burns night or St Andrews Day
Resources
A4 printout posters for display purposes during task
Possibly recruit parent/volunteer/cub who speaks Gaelic to assist for this activity
Page of 2xphrases for cut-up slips to hand out for cubs to learn over a few weeks
Instructions
Post up larger printouts on the wall (attached)
Learn pronunciation as a group then individually if cubs desire
Hand out the 2xphrases (also attached at end of the night BUT ensure they say 'Thankyou'.... IN GAELIC of course!
Practice on pack night/periodically until they know it well enough to qualify for the badge component (Scottish Challenge: Language)
We use 'Tapadh leat' for visiting speakers/demonstrators on pack nights - which adds a nice touch as we have very few Gaelic speakers in our area.
We ended up learning the Happy Birthday song in Gaelic with the idea of singing it as required on a pack night or at camp.
