Instructions

Standing some distance away from your chosen tree, hold up a pencil at arms length. Move backwards and forwards until the pencil is the same height as that of the tree.
Rotate the pencil through 90 degrees, keeping the base of the pencil line with the base of the tree. Now ask your friend to walk away from the tree to the point that corresponds with the tip of your pencil.
Ask your friend to stay still. Measure the distance between your friend and the tree trunk. This is the height of your tree.
