Hillside Scout Campsite is the official campsite for Adur Valley District Scouts in partnership with a number of Scout Groups in Hove & Portslade. In September 1937 the 21 acres campsite was officially opened for the Scouts of the Hove to Shoreham-by-Sea Area
Hillside is available Guide Group, Youth organisation or Schools up to the age of 21. Just drop us a line.

The campsite is located at the foot of the north side of the South Downs and is set within ancient woodland, you can hike to or from us with ease. We can accommodate groups of various sizes. Our site is a great place for a scouting weekend camp or a Duke of Edinburgh Hike destination as well as longer camps. It offers a large cut field ideal for any camp and a meadow camping field plus an untamed site.

Brick BBQ

Old Skool brick BBQ with wire cooking racks. Just add heat source and food.
This is situated right next to a fire altar. Perfect for cooking jacket potatoes

Bunk House

The Bunkhouse is a purpose built heated block that can sleep 28 in various bunk bedded rooms all year round. All rooms have a night toilet. The shower block is close by.
All beds come with a comfy mattress, individual hanging and storage in open lockers. Just bring your sleeping bag and a pillow.
As an additional security feature you are self contained, with a clear emergency exit route.

This is a lovely pitch over looking the South Downs. Its at the top of the sloping medow with a generous level area to camp on.

Campfire Circle

Our campfire circle is set in a natural amphitheatre and has played host to many a good scouting sing a long for group and district and events. Let the songs blast through the trees!

Hammock A

Great location!! Hammock camping is the best of wild camping with the use of the loo near by.
Young people will be able to challenge themselves to a night in the trees.

Kitchen and Training room

Training room is a large hall you can use for activities, dining hall or indoor games. It can hold up to 60 for a meal or even up to 100 at a Barn dance.
It has a wood-burning stove (plus gas heating).
The training room is equipped with table and chairs. Access to a kitchen is direct from hall and exterior door.

Please bring you own lashings.

Pizza Oven

Great fun.
Just put a hot disposable BBQ in the base of the oven, Pizzas on the shelf and let them cook.
Doesn't take long and is great for fussy eaters as they can choose their own topping!!

Rifle Range

An excellent opportunity to learn a skill that requires concentration and a good eye for accuracy to hit your targets. As this activity uses .177 air rifles, strict range discipline is maintained at all times. Requires parental consent.
